Finally Friday

Planning a Valentine’s Day party for ten little girls is a lot of work!  Every spare moment this week went into shopping, baking, or creating for this little get together–not to mention it was my eighth wedding anniversary this week to boot–so I didn’t have a whole lot of time to blog or much else!

Picture taking is even kind of light, so perhaps I will end up with a normal two-page spread after all!

Little Marie is doing great, just losing a lot of hair unfortunately.  She spends a lot of time in her bumbo seat now, and is getting used to a camera in her face quite a bit.  I must say she is quite the pro–flashed the big smile above as soon as I brought my Nikon up to my face. Now that’s a great kid!  Holly on the other hand is burnt out…done with the whole camera thing.  I have driven her crazy for four years with it and she is not interested anymore in smiling or much else for me!!!

We are heading up to my in-laws on Sunday for a day visit (we typically go for entire weekends), so I expect the weekend to zoom on by when you add that to the party. After that we have a week long visit from my mom starting next Tuesday, so can’t wait to see her and her extra set of hands!  No big plans as of yet for her visit, we tend to do lots of hanging out, stories, and games. I can’t wait to see Holly take her own with the wii truth be told!

That about sums it up for us this week. Have a great weekend!

What to do with extra photos from the week/month–add them to Shutterfly's templates!

As I finished up my first month of Project Life a few weeks ago, I realized I had quite a few photos that didn’t make it into my weekly layouts. After deleting those that were blurry or unusable I decided that I would try to make space in my book for the others as well….because truthfully there were quite a few in the bunch I really liked! (And since I am writing a letter to my girls at the end of each month, I was left with an empty page, so it seemed like a perfect idea to place the photos there.) I looked around in the 5+photo layout options on Shutterfly–and picked the large 2×2 grid.  Here is a screen shot of it in process:

I think I just might end up putting some colored blocks with type in some of the squares, not too sure yet.  I am just happy to have more photos OFF of my hard drive and INTO a book. It is going to be so nice to actually be able to enjoy our photos and memories next year!

Project Life : Week Six + Freebies

Good Morning all, and Happy Week Six!

This week I was drawn to black and white–and a bit of orange. I don’t know why….but I decided to go with it.  In the end, I really ended up loving it even though it’s different from the colorful images I usually am drawn to. What do you all think?

We had a lot of routine again this week which I think is going to be typical of winter days. We read together, craft together, basically just hang out together at home. I did play along with Ali’s Day in the Life on Wednesday, I am still working on a layout for all of the photos and facts I captured that day. But for now….my week six pages. Here is side one:

And here is side two:

It’s really late so I will sign off for now.  Hopefully you can read the journaling and quotes this week–there was some funny stuff going on at The Johnson Ranch!

****edited to add that I have finally found a download service on the web! If you liked the 6×6 templates I have used in my Project Life album so far, click here to download the template from week 3 and here to download the template from week 5.

Jules - Wow – total colour pop! Love the co-ordinated and clean look this gives your spread.
That ‘before dinosaurs’ quote from your daughter is so funny!

Andrea - Love the colors on your pages. The orange and black really pops. Great pictures. My favorite is the one of you guys reading on the couch by the window. Looks like you’re all having fun.

Krisi {Krisi's Kreations} - Love the patterned background paper – such a fun addition to your pages.

Love to see digi pages and would love for you to link up your post on my blog – http://krisiskreations.blogspot.com/2012/02/project-life-week-6-digi-link-up.html

sharon71 - Haha!! Love the Justin Bieber and the Dinosaur journaling – very funny.

The colours you have chosen this week look fabulous. Your photography is lovely too – the B&W pics are my faves.

Have a great week.

Heather Johnson - I stopped by and linked up–thanks for the digi love!

Julie - Your pages look great! I love the orange & black color scheme so much. The picture of your baby at the top is precious….what bright eyes!

Cami - I love how you used Holly’s artwork to pick your color palette. Beautiful. The design is clean and refreshing. Love it!

kate Adderley - love your digi pages, all the colour looks WOW, love your cute little baby at the top page.

Sarah - I love the color combo! Orange is my favorite color, but I’ve never really thought to put it with black and white. It’s awesome! I definitely might give that a go! It’s so much fun to see more digi versions. I really like your pages, your style. I’m also digging that you have a patterned background paper! That looks really cool.

To answer the question you asked on my blog, I buy PL “page protectors” … generally meant for PL. I take them and spin them whichever way, and that gives me a lot of options to work with. At first I just did the actual rounded corner templates, with PPs that matched, but then I found other sellers with different PPs and went to town. I didn’t even realize until this week that most digi folks weren’t using fake page protectors!

Maria @ Crazy Lovely Madhouse - Hi, I’ve stopped by via Krisi’s Kreations. I love your pages! I really like the way you use text right on your photos – I might have to try that soon. Thank you for the 6×6 templates. I have yet to use that page style as I usually have way to many photos to use a page with only 4 spots, but I think these templates will help me make really good use of that page design. I also really like how you have a mix of colour and B&W photos. Very cool.

Maria

ps. – I have a daughter named Holly too. :)

Weekend Recap

Had a great weekend with my girls! Since my husband works on Saturdays, I am always looking for fun and new things to do with the kids. Luckily our local library has free entertainment on Saturdays–so we were quick to take advantage of that! They had a great entertainer who played the guitar and had all of us dancing and singing.  Some friends met us there, and we even ran into more friends from preschool after it was all over.  It’s amazing how, even though we live in such a large city, we always run into people we know no matter where we are! After the program we decided it was high time that Holly signed for her own library card. And wouldn’t you know it?  Mom had her camera in her purse!  Thank you Project Life!

Sunday was a more low-key day. I had my weekly weigh-in at WW (down 1.2 more…so close to crossing that 200# threshold!) and then a bit of work with another newborn photo shoot. By the time I got home we were all so completely wiped out, me from working in a hot studio and Justin from occupying the girls, that we went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I think we were all in bed by 8!

I have a ton of catching up to do with my Project Life album before tomorrow.  It’s only half done, but at least I have all of the pictures in one place!  Hopefully when everyone goes to sleep tonight I can sneak onto my computer and finish up.  I so look forward to Tuesdays when everyone posts:)

On another note, things are in high gear for the Valentine’s party this Saturday.  I have 8-10 little girls coming to the house!!!  I bought all of the food today, and am devising my plan of attack as to what I am going to make ahead and when.  I hope to take a lot of photos–but most of all I hope the girls have a great time.  I have a feeling the party will have it’s own special insert!

Wait…there is an app for that?!

That’s my precious baby, right before the first evening she slept in her bassinet for the entire night two days ago. She only woke once, for about ten minutes, and my world? Well it felt about perfect. Fast forward to last night where we attempted to try our luck in her actual room, in her actual crib. I will spare you all of the details, but I will say that I got ten minutes again–just ten minutes of asleep time!  I actually don’t know how bad it was, but it was pretty bad!  We were up between 5-7 times, something she never has done.  (Not even as a newborn.) I tried to put her down in the crib throughout the day today and every time I did she cried, so as far as I am concerned it’s official; she hates her crib! We are firmly back in my room tonight until I figure out just what the heck is going on!!

I dusted off my copy of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child in the hopes of finding some answers. This book totally shaped the way I raised Holly and is the reason why I have such a good sleeper in her. I didn’t discover the book until Holly was 5 or 6 months old however, so I really have no idea what it recommends for someone Marie’s age…and when I investigated it further online I discovered that the good doctor has since developed an app for keeping track of naps, complete with reminders!  Brilliant! I have downloaded it already and look forward to being able to use it. As for figuring Marie out now?  Ha–sounds like I am still in the age of unpredictability. It says to try to start getting her accustomed to putting herself to sleep, but by and large it seems that right now I just need to go with the flow.  Hmmmmm…you think that would be easy for me to do!

All I know is that right now she is next to me, and is completely OUT.  I am typing on my laptop right her beside her and she isn’t moving a muscle!  Justin and Holly are already asleep too.  Seems like a good night to work on Project Life yes?

Other than obsessing about napping and sleeping, the rest of our week went pretty smooth around here.  Nothing terribly exciting to report unfortunately.  I do look forward to getting back into the studio on Sunday. A friend of mine had her baby girl two weeks early, so I will be photographing a 9-day old baby girl.  Can’t wait!!!
