Preschool Mini Sessions : Day One

Now that it’s November 1st I can somewhat come up for air, or at least up for air enough to share some sessions in between edits! Autumn is always a busy time for photographers and this autumn was my busiest year yet. Thank you so much to all of the families that joined me September-October, I really did have a lot of fun.

Back on September 29th I held the first of two mini-sessions at my daughter’s preschool. The natural light there and the character of the grounds make it the perfect place for photos. Who doesn’t love a wooden split rail fence? Or a bright red little playhouse? Students if the school are invited to come play with me for twenty minutes and I am always amazed with how comfortable the children are there, and how much they love to show me around. It truly is a magical place!

Here is a sampling of some my favorite photos from September 29th:

More to come soon, you won’t believe the cuteness.

Stephanie - Love them!! They are perfect!!

Jasmine Star - So many precious faces…love it!

admin - Thank you so much Jasmine for taking the time to stop by my blog, it means a lot that you are taking the time to “get to know” us before we meet up. I haven’t had a chance to put up a blog post of the first wedding I shot two weeks ago, but there are a bunch on our facebook group page. When we meet up I would love to hear what you think:) Cannot wait until Wednesday!!!

libbywilko - Lovely Heather ! Wish out preschool photos were that good !

Digital Project Life : Week Forty-Three

After three of four weeks of posting 6-10 days late, here I am at Week 43 posting four days before Tuesday. Here’s to being motivated! (Or here’s to having free time again. Or maybe it’s here’s to having a house full of people that go to bed at 7pm on a Saturday night so what else am I going to do but scrapbook?!! It’s really any or all of the above….)

This week came together so easily. Bought a new kit that I really loved working with, and had a lot of great photos of the girls enjoying the fall. We even had our first show of flurries this week too, but I couldn’t get a picture of it to come out with my iphone. I was going to notate it somewhere here within the layout but I just ran out of room. I have a feeling that next week will be just as fun/fast to put together–it will be Halloween after all!

Left Side:

I am back to posting big this week. I loved the page too much to make it little:) For the first time I used a 4×6 in it’s entirety in the title card spot–love that. And the subway words brush? Love love love! I have quite a few of them, even one for Halloween next week. I love everything Karen Lewis does, so if you’ve never seen her work I urge you to check it out.

The rest of the page is made up of impromptu leaf parties, Holly showing off her birthday shirt, and a picture and description of her party. Come to think of it, her birthday party was actually part of week 42 wasn’t it? Oh well….it doesn’t matter! I can’t keep everything straight anymore…and years from now, when I look at this, I am sure I won’t remember that my  ”Project Life Weeks” ran Sunday-Saturday!

Right Side:

This page shows some of the fun Holly and I had at the Pumpkin Patch today, us at her preschool’s “moms and muffins” event, plus some random going-ons at the house. We subscribe to kiwicrate.com, and I have to say I highly recommend it. I Love everything they send and Holly is super excited to get the green box every month with the crafts inside. This month it was shadow puppets, and she had so much fun putting on a show for us with them. (And I am once again impressed with the low-light capabilities of my camera–love how this picture turned out!)

An every day thing I captured were the cookie wafers she always leaves after she eats Oreos. I was getting ready to clean the table and realized that I had never taken a picture of what she doesn’t eat…and since my camera was sitting on the kitchen counter I grabbed a shot. Too funny, and something that I know I would forget if I didn’t get a record of it.

The biggest hit of Holly’s party, and just around the house shenanigans, is Justin’s Halloween mask. This thing is SCARY looking in person, and Holly just loves it! At her party the kids just loved to be chased round and round the yard and in the house–I can’t wait to see the reactions when Justin wears it Wednesday night.

That’s a wrap folks. Off to upload some pages to Shutterfly and watch some TV from the week. Hopefully this week I can begin posting about the 30+ photo sessions I had in the months of September and October, I have so much to share!

Brandi - Love your layouts! Can you please tell me where you got the fall journaling cards? Thanks for sharing~

libbywilko - Must totally admit I like seeing your pages big… I think I’d prefer a blur of the journalling if its private and still see the photos and design big. Love your creativity and the photos of the fun in the leaves. Thanks for sharing your pages with us.

admin - It’s part of Lori Whitlock’s latest fall line at http://www.jessicasprague.com. There is both an element kit and a paper kit–super cute stuff!

Lisa J - I ♥ your spread this week.
That apron shot is TOO CUTE!
I also ♥ how you included the subway word art.
I agree w/ the big pages…they look much better that way! :)

Cerise - Beautiful layout. Love the photos of the kids playing in the leaves. I really want to get my boys a kiwi crate subscription. I’ve heard nothing but good things.

Kelli W - I *love* the full 4×6 for the date card – it’s such a great photo! I’m jealous of all the beautiful fall colors you get to photograph :) Where I live we don’t really get much “fall”

Jessica - I just found your blog from Pinterest – love your work – photographs, composition, the whole 9 yards. I try digital project life but mine look nothing like your’s, dang it – I blame it on my unwillingness to use/learn/buy PS :)

Just wanted to say that you should really consider submitting your name for Becky’s creative team – I’d vote for you!

Your kids are super precious. Thanks for sharing!

admin - Thank you Jessica! I actually did submit my stuff to her yesterday–I am keeping my fingers crossed:)

Digital Project Life : Week Forty-Two : The Week Without Photos

What happens when you go to put your weekly Project Life layout together and have no photos? Like seriously not ONE photo–not even with my iphone?

You remember that you have a super-cool all text digital template from Paislee Press from years ago that will work perfect. I present to you my photo-less week 42. (It looks a little goofy pictured here, but when sitting side by side it looks really cool–very simple, like a magazine, and plenty of white space in the “gutter area” so my words won’t get lost!)

The left side:

The right side:

Both sides together:

Not to worry, next week will be chock-full of photos. At last count I had already taken 364!

I am linking up this week at the mom creative. Check it out for lots of inspiration!

Lisa Johnson - I ♥ ♥ ♥ the fact that you still made a weekly spread even though you didn’t have any pics.

That would have thrown me for a loop and I would have worried about trying to take some pics just to have some to put in the spread or I would have skipped the whole week.

Major kudos to you for just documenting what it is.
I’ll have to remember that for in the future.
Thanks for sharing! :)

Sarah Wilkinson - I love it! What a great idea and it looks so crisp and clean.

libbywilko - Happens to us all… Love PP’s template bet it looks awesome in the book !

Cerise - I would have had a melt down. But those weeks do happen and I think you handled it beautifully. Such a great idea.

Stephanie - I agree, no pictures, but at least you still got a post up!

Digital Project Life: Week Forty and Week Forty One

I’m here! I’m here!

I am not behind, but I am not ahead. I am barely hanging on:) I read on Facebook the other day that October for photographers is like April for accountants–so true. With a senior session, a family session, a wedding, and approximately 30 mini-sessions to keep on top of (let alone process and edit) it doesn’t leave too much time for anything else.

Put a five year old’s birthday party on top of that and WOW. Mommy overload!!

Anyhow, I won’t do a lot of commentary, just post the past two weeks for you all to see. I was able to showcase one of my favorite photos of Holly EVER on week 41–love the impact of a 6×12 photo!

First up, week 40:

This was Holly’s actual birthday week, and the week she got her ears pierced. I got to spend time in her class that week, which is always super fun. I have done it the past two years, and it’s so interesting to see, socially, how the kids are developing. This was the first year I really noticed that boys were with boys and girls were with girls…and then within the girls there were groups. Cliques. At five. Oh boy. I did manage to get two shots of Marie in this week. One was her first time in a pile of leaves (she had absolutely no idea what to do besides eat them) and another image taken with my iphone as she scampered away from the bedroom chair. She is always making a bee line for the bathroom. I have no idea why–it’s the last place I would want to crawl to. I am not sure it’s been cleaned since August….

And week 41:

By the end of the week I FINALLY had my D700 back, and had a new lens rented for the wedding I shot on Sunday. Me thinks mommy needs this lens in her bag! I had a sad number of photos this past week because of my a) missing camera and b) busy schedule, so I took the opportunity to create two “something I want to remember” cards that are just filled with things each girl is doing now. Run on sentences, incomplete sentences…really just brain dumps of stuff. Might not be the most eloquent, but boy am I glad I got all of it written down!

I also found photos I thought I deleted last week–the cuties of Marie in the red polka dots. She was clapping and playing peek a boo, and of course flashing her smile. She lights up a room that one.

And that’s all I wrote for weeks 40 and 41!

libbywilko - Thanks for sharing the weeks with us Heather , look forward to seeing the wedding photos on the blog. Love the big photo of Holly and the cute hats on Marie! So cozy.

Sheri - Heather, I LOVE your style! I am super happy to see one of my cute little cards used on week 41 too :) Works perfectly with your layout! The large photo of your daughter is amazing! You have gained another follower! :) I hope you apply to be on Becky’s CT for 2013. I think you have everything it takes!! Good luck if you do decide too!

admin - Sheri–OMG–thank you for your sweet comments! I have LOVED following your blog all year, it was so awesome to have a digital scrapbooker represented. You have given me tons of ideas!!! (And your card? LOVE!!) I actually did apply to the CT yesterday, and only today saw that someone put a link to my blog in Becky’s comments. Seriously floored me!! I am crossing my fingers:)

Digital Project Life : Week Thirty-Nine

Welcome to the busy season for photographers! I didn’t realize until I was getting ready to post this that it had been weeks since my last blog post. I have SO MUCH to share, but am so focused at churning out everyone’s galleries AND creating a new portfolio website that I haven’t had time for much else!!

Here is week 39, a couple of weeks late, but done nonetheless. I did both week 39 and 40 in about two hours last night…and that was starting from scratch. Using Marcy Penner’s planning pages really helped me get my photos/thoughts together, would definitely recommend them if you get behind.

I have decided to post my two pages side-by-side. I like everything a bit smaller so you can see the whole layout, and it occurred to me that I probably didn’t need to share all of my journaling with the world all of the time! If you have any specific questions, let me know, but going forward this is probably how I will display my pages. If you follow me on pinterest, I will still be posting individual pages.

Here’s week 39′s spread:

Whenever I am short on time, I always revert back to the Clementine Kit. I just love that kit! Updates this week including working on teaching Holly to read and feeding Marie eggs. She LOVES eggs and eagerly will sign for more when she is ready for more. I must say it really is hard functioning without my DSLR, my eye has gotten so used to the crispness of my prime lenses that my old point-and-shoot is driving me crazy. 90% of my shots were blurry (I turn the flash off) so it was slim picking this week in the photo department!

One of my favorite shots from the week was of our yogurt sundae cups. As we finished up I was remarking about how different our tastes and preferences are…and then I though–YES–a 4×6 slot for project life! Detailing out what was in everyone’s cup sure does tell you a bit about each of us!

I will be back tomorrow with Week 40. And hopefully the post soon that I promised weeks ago about Chutes and Ladders park in Burnsville. Like I said, BUSY SEASON!!!
