Cristina and Jason — Minneapolis/St Paul Wedding Photographer

Every once in awhile I am able to witness a wedding with so many special and unique touches that the love of the day? I can literally feel it as I photograph. Last night was one of those nights.

It all began with a chance meeting at a bookclub and culminated last night with an intimate ceremony and reception at The Happy Gnome in Saint Paul. No detail was overlooked–from the books at every place setting, to the guest serenade of The Beatles tune “I Want To Hold Your Hand” as the bride and groom walked down the aisle. It was an evening full of warmth, charm, and character. And love. Lots and lots of love. Cristina and Jason, thank you for choosing me to be a part of your special day. Congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy future together!

Amy O'H. - Gorgeous photos! Love the book theme as well.

He Sure is Charismatic! — Minneapolis/St Paul Newborn Photographer

Last week I photographed the most engaging little newborn ever–seriously, you won’t believe these photos. (And the fact that he was only a week old when they were taken.) I have never seen anyone that little have so much character. He not only was incredibly fun to photograph, but he nailed every shot in seconds. This whole session only lasted an hour! LOVE newborn lifestyle sessions!

We started with a few shots with Dad…I just LOVE the look on the baby’s face on the right! That is how he looked at his Dad every. single. time.

When we realized little man was just NOT going to nap we decided to do a few shots on Mom’s lap,

and on Mom’s shoulder. Every session has “THE SHOT” and this one? This was IT.

By this time the baby was very relaxed and comfortable with my big camera in his front of him, so I sent Mom and Dad off to relax while I took a few shots in the crib.

One thing I tell parents, particularly new parents is never to worry about a) what the house/nursery looks like or b) what they themselves look like. Having had a newborn not long ago myself I am all too aware of how tired I was and how much I didn’t want my picture taken–but at the same time wanted to somehow be represented in the photos that were snapshots of those first few weeks of babyhood. Soooo many parents tend to feel the same way, so I work really hard at getting creative with angles and crops that accomplish these goals. The images below capture this well I believe:

If you are interested in newborn photography in Minneapolis/St Paul, please book a session! (But if you want to learn more about the whole process first, head on over to session details in the left-side menu bar.)

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Preschool Mini Sessions : Day Two : Minneapolis/St Paul Children’s Photographer

Happy Monday! This post was supposed to go up Friday…but I was a bit distracted with all of the home improvements happening here to sit down at the computer much. (Come to think of it I don’t think I snapped a photo at all this weekend either.) Perhaps I just needed a little break……it’s unbelievably hard to concentrate with jackhammers in the background!

Anyhow, today I am featuring one more round of images from my fall mini sessions at a local preschool. The preschool is a little hobby farm which provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor portraits (split rail fences and wagon wheels oh my!)…in fact I did an engagement photo session there last weekend! (No peeks of that yet–must wait until the Save the Date cards go out. Cannot wait to share them though!)

Tomorrow I will be posting Week Seven of Project Life, and Wednesday hosting an awesome giveaway. I hope to be kicking off one, if not two new series here at the blog as well…..it’s going to be an exciting week!!!

Lynn L. - Gorgeous photos! What a great location to take photos!! :)

Four Brothers — Minneapolis/St Paul Children’s Photographer

It’s Friday so you all know what that means….another fall session share! I must say it has been really fun to go back through all of the sessions from the autumn season and enjoy the colors and relive the memory. (And as ridiculous as this sounds it makes me yearn for September all over again–just love that time of year!) Hope you all are enjoying this peek into my photography business just as much.

I remember this day like it was yesterday. It was the last weekend in September and very, very hot. There was not a cloud in the sky that day, truly a perfect autumn day despite the heat. I met this family at The Tamarack Nature Center one of my favorite twin cities playgrounds and a perfect setting to capture four young boys.

First we hung around in an open field. I don’t remember what I did exactly but it probably involved silly noises and a bit of dancing to get those smiles:)

The lure of the log and flowing stream proved to hard to resist though, so soon we were off to the center of the park to explore. (Seriously? Can you blame them?) After we spent sometime in the stream we headed over to the giant rock wall and found a cave to explore, and of course paused for a photo op.

We ended in the field, rolling and playing around like we were kids. Well…they are kids. Perhaps it is just me that was rolling around like a kid. (It goes without saying that I seriously paid for it the next day.) The afternoon ended with one of my most favorite photos ever. Their mom enlarged this one for over the fireplace in their family room, I can only imagine how perfect it looks there.

And that’s a wrap for this week. Next Friday I will be sharing more from my preschool sessions, lots and lots of cuteness ahead!

Amy O'H. - Great photos and a lovely location!

Welcome Little Man — Minneapolis/St Paul Newborn Photographer

This weekend I had the opportunity to photograph a precious little newborn baby boy. We got right to work on the beanbag when I arrived, and once he was swaddled he settled right down enough to give me this beautiful image:

He did not want to fall asleep at all, so we soon left the beanbag to spend some time in his room with momma. I absolutely adore how these images turned out. There really isn’t anything like the look on a new mom’s face is there? So happy and so in awe of the new life that is now part of her heart forever…

We then moved onto some family photos. Love how the simplicity of black and white allows all of the emotion to show through. It truly is the perfect choice, in my opinion, for newborn lifestyle photography.

I’ll be back tomorrow with Week Five of Project Life. Have a great Monday!

Amy O'H. - Lovely photos! He looks like he is in a cocoon in the top photo- love it!
