We started with a few shots with Dad…I just LOVE the look on the baby’s face on the right! That is how he looked at his Dad every. single. time.

When we realized little man was just NOT going to nap we decided to do a few shots on Mom’s lap,

and on Mom’s shoulder. Every session has “THE SHOT” and this one? This was IT.

By this time the baby was very relaxed and comfortable with my big camera in his front of him, so I sent Mom and Dad off to relax while I took a few shots in the crib.

One thing I tell parents, particularly new parents is never to worry about a) what the house/nursery looks like or b) what they themselves look like. Having had a newborn not long ago myself I am all too aware of how tired I was and how much I didn’t want my picture taken–but at the same time wanted to somehow be represented in the photos that were snapshots of those first few weeks of babyhood. Soooo many parents tend to feel the same way, so I work really hard at getting creative with angles and crops that accomplish these goals. The images below capture this well I believe:

He did not want to fall asleep at all, so we soon left the beanbag to spend some time in his room with momma. I absolutely adore how these images turned out. There really isn’t anything like the look on a new mom’s face is there? So happy and so in awe of the new life that is now part of her heart forever…

We then moved onto some family photos. Love how the simplicity of black and white allows all of the emotion to show through. It truly is the perfect choice, in my opinion, for newborn lifestyle photography.

In-home newborn sessions are relaxing for everyone, including baby. She barely woke up the entire time I was there! Definitely how I plan on doing newborn sessions moving forward. Back in the studio this morning…..Meet Jackson, five days old and cute as a button!  This is just one of the many adorable images he produced, it’s practically a whole session of “keepers!”

I am still looking for newborn models, so if you know of anyone that’s due soon, or just had a baby, please send along my info.  Newborns are such a joy to photography!

Meet little Grayson.  He was such a joy to photograph, he literally smiled every time he heard my camera clicking away!  I have received tons of new fabric, hair pretties, and more in the studio–so be sure to send pregnant mommies to my website for more information.  I am continuing to waive newborn session fees, so it’s a great time schedule a session.

I myself am going to schedule one!  That’s right, we received word a few weeks ago that baby #2 is on the way and will be joining us this fall.  One of my first thoughts was, oh!  The pictures I will be able to take!

There has been quite the newborn parade through my studio as of late, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!  Here is more of little Zoe, the first baby girl I have had in the studio–and such a wonderful baby at that!

Little Zoe was the perfect little newborn angel this morning, she slept through the whole session!  I was able to try out a few new poses and a few new flower pretties…girls are so fun:)  More to follow soon, but for now I am going to go for a walk around the block without a jacket on in a tank top–I don’t care how cold it still is.  An 88 degree studio will do that to you!

The past few weeks have been a flurry of activity, from online ordering to Target and IKEA runs….but I can safely say I have arrived, and am here, sitting in my cute little studio.  I hope to have more pictures soon, but with six bare walls staring back at me it isn’t ready to show off just yet.  For now you will have to make due with my iphone photo from this weekend!  A big shout-out to my husband who spent HOURS, and I mean HOURS assembling all of my new furniture.  I don’t know what I would do without him:)

This week I will be putting the details together for my Mother’s Day Weekend event, and finalizing the calendar for this upcoming year, so be sure to check back in the next few days to see what I have cooking.  I am also working on a new issue of my monthly newsletter that will hit email boxes by the end of the week–so much to do, but so exciting at the same time.

Sometime next week I plan on practicing a bit in the room above, so if you know of anyone with a baby 6-18 months that could help out (baby must be able to sit up on his/her own), please have them contact me.   Anyone that is able to volunteer their time will receive an awesome gift for helping out!

I absolutely love scalloped edges, so these new baby announcements sent me over the edge with excitement!   I am now including a set of 25 with every newborn session, as I can not think of a prettier way to announce the arrival of a newborn.  Which one is your favorite?

Speaking of newborns, I received word today that I will be able to attend Kelly Ryden’s Newborn Workshop in THREE WEEKS instead of September!  I simply cannot wait to learn from her and her sister Tracey, their style is so beautiful and sweet.
