This week was all about our yearly camping trip. I didn’t have pictures of anything else this week, and a whole ton from the trip, so this week’s spread focuses only on Thursday-Saturday. Totally fine by me, I am just happy the photos are off of the computer. I was re-energized yesterday regarding Project Life and the whole “get your photos off of the computer” concept when two huge Persnickety Prints orders arrived and I got to touch and see all of our Little House photos from last week–particularly the little 3×3 photos. Nothing can compare to seeing the physical prints!!! I can’t wait to do a post on the inserts from that day–plus the past eleven weeks! Just have a few journaling cards to fill out and I will share. I think you all are going to LOVE it. I know I do!
What we were up to this week: Getting ready to go camping, actually camping, coming home from camping. It’s quite the production with two little kids!
Techniques used this week: Brushes, of course! I also am a student in Ali’s new Hello Story class at Big Picture (OMG–totally worth it, week one’s contact was amazing and inspiring GO SIGN UP NOW!) which had a big influence on my journaling this week. I recolored the journal card spots in the template and added a brush with the day of the week–then did journaling for that day over that. I reduced the opacity on the brush to 29% so you could read it better–I love how that turned out! Her focus this week was how to use timelines in your scrapbooking and believe it or not I designed my own page immediately after watching the video. (It’s below.) I have NEVER designed anything–always using a template to scrap. THAT’S how inspiring this class is.
DSLR Photos Vs Iphone Photos: 12:0. All Nikon this week. (You better bet that’s the case. If I am lugging my lenses and camera out to the woods they ARE going to get used!) I did have some instagrams and iphone photos, but they are in the insert below.
Favorite Photo of the Week: The close up of Holly with her fishing pole. LOVE my 35mm lens. To get her laughing, and to get the look I wanted (a clear shot of her face–somewhat larger than her body that is a “pose” I think that really captures joy), I had her hold the pole and lean towards me and lean out. I had her do it faster and faster, which got her laughing, and in the end got me exactly what I wanted!
Other thoughts: One of my favorite weeks ever. Love all of the photos this week, and really look forward to creating more inserts.
Supplies used this week: Most of the supplies are in the icons below. A few that are not: the camping paper and elements are maybe a Cosmo Cricket one that sadly is no longer available. (I am not 100% on this–for some reason there is no preview file in my supply folder so I actually don’t know who the designer is…I am just guessing. Cosmo Cricket doesn’t do digital anymore–darn!) The days of the week stamps used on the journaling card are from Studio Calico’s Day by Day class offered in January. The “moment to savor” card is from Cathy Zielske at Designer Digitals. (I can’t, for the live of me, find it on the DD website.) And finally the happiness frame. It’s from Splendid Finns, over on the-lilypad.com, but I can’t find that product either so perhaps it’s been retired.
As I mentioned above I am enrolled in Ali’s Hello Story class and I LOVE it. Below is a 6×12 insert I put together with some stories from our camping weekend.
I can’t wait to do more timeline based photos. This tells the story in a new way–and I just LOVE it!
