Digital Project Life 2015 : Week Three

Happy to be back, on time, with another week in the books for 2015. I read Ali’s blog this morning and found myself nodding along as I did. What she said is exactly what I posted about last week when talking about my “plans” for 2015. Project Life in a weekly format is just such a nice structure. It does feel like home to me now as she said, and a natural place for me to store our memories. Anyhow I don’t mean to get off on a tangent, I just thought it was an interesting read. I present to you Week Three!

What we were up to this week: We enjoyed some time outside! Once the temperature reaches 30 (actually who I am kidding–20!) people start going outside again here in Minnesota. If we weren’t sledding or taking a walk we were swimming or studying for spelling tests. Just your normal stuff!

New techniques/ideas used this week: Nothing new, really, other than I resized the background to make the photos larger. (If you check out my last post you will see I have already adjusted weeks one and two. I updated the “week of” cards too–the other ones were TOO minimal for me!) There was too much background showing last week and after staring at those pages for a few days I figured out what I wasn’t liking about them. Not enough focus on the photos! When I resized everything I also took the paper I had on the inner mat “off” and left my dark gray place holder. I really like the color and how it makes the photos pop. I just might keep it that way all year! I am not sure if what is going on with me but I am really, really not into bright patterns and color right now. (I tried traditional Project Life kits again, and went straight back to the Silver Linings papers.) If you have followed me for any length of time you know that this year is looking way different than years past. I am usually all about color and pattern and each week is different. Now I am starting to wonder if I won’t use the same papers week after week after week! Weird.

DSLR Photos Vs Iphone Photos: All iphone save the “sad Marie” photo. It was from my photoshoot of her on New Year’s Day that I hope to incorporate into my still incomplete title page.

Favorite Photo of the Week: I love the sledding selfie of Holly and I this week. It’s so rare I am in the photos, and this one turned out pretty good. (Nothing like a scarf hiding the double chin and the hat covering up unkept hair–HA!)

Other thoughts:  Still craving a more minimalist approach.

Supplies used this week: One Little Bird’s Silver Linings papers, cards from the Project Life Dazzle Mini Kit (recolored), Ali’s messy daily circles, and 4×6 templates from Paislee Press. The day of the week timeline in the upper right, and the “time Crunch” brush, are both digital products from Ali’s Hello Story class last year.

  • Nicole M. - Love your page 🙂 I always like your mix of black and white photos, it’s something I forget to do myself. I am in the same boat with the more minimalist or streamlined approach. I may still break out my brighter kits, but I have also created some constants – specific fonts I will use throughout my book. My first year I used a million different fonts all over the place. And I don’t mind the look, but this year I am sticking to a few specific fonts (ie. one for regular journaling, one for journaling on photos, one for titles on cards…) and am going to stick with the set throughout the whole book to create some cohesiveness. Or at least that’s the plan, for now!
Looking forward to seeing more of your pages with your new approach 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Lynn L. - I like the bigger photos too!! Love the sad face pic and glad you were able to get in the photos too!! The great thing about scrapbooking is there are no rules…enjoy what you make and change things up when you want! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel
